FUCK YOU – THE NEW GAY ANTHEM

I’ve always liked Lily Allen, both her and her music, but like has now turned to love with her latest single – Fuck You. It couldn’t be more timely with all the hateful things being said in America right now brought on by the fight for Gay Marriage. Just Google it and you’ll see comment after comment on blogs and news sites with some of the most hateful bigoted and shameful spoutings from religious fanatics (guess they forgot about the Love/respect thy neighbor part of their Bible teachings.) While Lily Allen apparently directed this towards the BNP in the UK, it’s pretty clear that she supports Gay rights.

Anyway, Lily’s Allen’s official video is first, and then another from a brilliant YouTuber named Stevie Bee Bishop: http://youtube.com/steviedidit who organized other youtubers into submitting videos lip syncing to Lily Allen’s song and then compiled it into a new video. Here’s what Stevie has to say about it:

“Theres a disgusting amount of hate on the internet (especially on youtube!) directed at minority groups (especially the LGBT community) so i was inspired to organize this collab video. i never set out to change the world. i did not make this for the gay haters to see. i wanted to make something light hearted and funny for the victims of gay hate, to teach them to brush off the hate and stand strong and confident as who they are. you’re not alone! stevie loves you :)”

Stevie should get an award for his (brilliant) effort:

I also want to mention that I’m Canadian, and our fight for gay marriage is long over, we’ve had equal marriage rights for over 5 years now, and nothing has changed. Canada didn’t implode. However, I love my Americans neighbors and it’s breaking my heart to see this fight play out right now.

I MAY BE GAY, BUT I LOOOOOVE AMY WINEHOUSE!

Who hasn’t heard of Amy Winehouse by now, winner (in absentia) of 5 Grammies at this years awards. Who doesn’t love her sexy sultry voice when she sings?

Who knew she would be so hilarious on the British game show “Never Mind the Buzzcocks”?

I loved the response she gave to being asked if her hair was all her own…. “”yeah it’s mine (be)cause I bought it”

Hope you enjoy this video recently posted on youtube.

When I was writing this post I went on to Amazon to see about getting the code to link to her album “Back to Black” and on reading the reviews found someone who was complaining about her voice and her (?alleged?) drug habits…. in doing this they said Amy was “a self-destructive alcoholic with eating disorders and” (used) “tabloid headlines to get noticed.” Mentioning that she did not compare to the greats of:

Ray Charles (yes, the same Ray Charles who was a known heroin addict)

Duke Ellington (yes, the pothead)

Etta James (yes, another heroin addict) and

Phil Spector (alleged “misogynist and murderer”)

Make up your own minds, but while you think about it enjoy the next couple of songs written and/or sung by Amy, try listening to the lyrics.

GEORGE MICHAEL TOUR & MAKES FUN OF GEORGE MICHAEL

So I got an e mail this morning from the George Michael Fan Club – no comments please – seems good old George is going to do a North American Tour, with 25 dates in 25 Cities, thankfully Toronto (my home town of 22 years) is on that list, YAY!!!! I may not be first in line, but you can bet this is one concert we’re not going to miss. I guess ticket prices have yet to be set, however I paid $550 (X2) to see Barbra last year, hopefully the tickets will be sightly cheaper.

Of course when I sit at the computer I find one link leads to another and I end up finding this video posted on youtube, it’s taken from the British TV show Extras, a
Ricky Gervais Produced show (he also brought us The Office). Watch the whole thing, it’s just George doing what he does best….

VIDEO: I NEVER PLAYED WITH DOLLS, BUT IF HE WERE REAL I’D GIVE IT A TRY…

This video kind of reminds me of Michael (US version) or Vince (British version) from Queer As Folk. Only thing I can’t see is him playing with dolls…

For those of you who forgot what they looked like – or never knew of them…

Hal Sparks alias Michael Novotny

Craig Kelly alias Vince Tyler

and Charlie Hunnam, alias Nathan Maloney – nothing to do with this post except I always had the biggest crush on him….

If anyone in North America has never seen the British version of QAF we can highly recommend it, much grittier and down to earth than the North American version.

BETTER

Thank you to AfterElton for letting me know about this fantastic song and video by Tom Baxter. I’m not a huge acoustic guitar balad person, but between the words and the all inclusive message that the video sends out, how can you not like it.

The videos presents people who are gay, straight, tall, short, young, old are all represented in the most “this is normal” and comfortable way, ending in all the representitives kissing and just being in love and happy as if it’s a perfect world.

Although it’s far from perfect, the video’s message of inclusiveness is exactly why I love living in Toronto – it’s a melting pot of cultures and one of the most accepting cities I’ve ever encountered. I’m always so proud to say I live here.

Here’s a sampling of the words:

I can’t concede,
This way I feel,
For all the time we spent, together,
Forever – Just gets better.

See what I’m trying to say is:
You make things – better
And no matter what the day is,
With you here – it’s better.

So, you like internet dating? Well maybe you should watch this short movie from US filmmaker David M. Young. As a brief plot summary and not wanting to ruin the suspense by telling too much, Al and Fred hook up for a little casual fun that soon turns ugly, revealing some fateful truths about Internet-dating, love and death.

The movie itself only lasts 8 minutes with a huge cast of three, two main characters played by Yuval David and David Grant Beck with a cameo appearance by an unnamed actor at the end.

YOU’RE SO GAY!

Sing, sing a song
Sing out loud
Sing out strong
Sing of Gay things, not bad…

Well enough of the Carpenters…Lets sing about being Glad to be Gay, Tom Robinson wrote this first song in 1976 for the London Gay Pride March in 1976. Recorded and released it on an EP in 1977, which of course was immediately banned by BBC Radio – a sure way to make it a hit!!!

Moving on to something a little more recent we have “Ok to be Gay” by Tomboy. Check out his website. It’s all in flash and not the easiest to navigate, but it does make an interesting read.

It really speaks volumes that from 1976 to today – 31 years later – that in some Countries it still isn’t “Ok to be Gay”. Thankfully I live in Canada and I can Marry my Partner the minute he asks me! (Hey J get the hint?)
